Equipment Background
In industries such as energy, mining, petrochemical, metallurgy, marine engineering, and heavy manufacturing, critical components often suffer from wear, corrosion, fatigue, impact damage, and dimensional loss under long-term high-load operation. Traditional repair methods usually require component disassembly, transportation, welding, machining, and long production shutdowns, resulting in high maintenance costs and low repair efficiency.
The Greenstone GPortaLAM® portable laser repair system is developed specifically for intelligent on-site metal restoration and hybrid additive manufacturing applications. By combining laser cladding deposition, adaptive grinding, intelligent visual positioning, and portable robotic operation, the system enables rapid on-site repair of high-value industrial components with improved flexibility, precision, and automation. The dense metallurgical bonding produced by laser cladding technology provides excellent wear resistance, low dilution rate, and long-term service reliability for repaired parts.

Equipment function display
- Lightweight and portable
The equipment adopts a modular design. Each module has independent functions and can be disassembled and assembled according to different usage scenarios. The module is lightweight and can be easily deployed by 1-2 people at the work site. The robot is fixed by magnetic suction and can be installed upright, sideways, or upside down.
- Drag-and-drop teaching experiment
The collaborative robot was introduced into the laser cladding industry for the first time. The drag-and-drop teaching function is combined with the cladding target: 20*20mm square. After cladding: the error is within 1mm. This method can quickly frame the cladding area and save teaching time.

- Visual adaptive repair
3.1 Blade repair
Use the self-developed visual adaptive cladding system and process path library to carry out blade extension and local defect repair. The blade is accurately positioned, there is almost no light leakage at the edge, and the cladding effect is good.

3.2 Engine mold core insert
Use the self-developed visual adaptive cladding system and process path library to extend the size of the mold core insert. Accurate positioning, good molding effect, cladding height of 25mm without collapse.

3.3 Defect contour recognition
Select the detection target (triangle, rectangle, square, polygon, circle, ellipse), the system extracts features based on the current screen image and automatically generates the cladding path.


- Additive and subtractive integrated function
Flip the tool head to switch between laser additive and force-controlled subtractive. Realize the integration of “drilling pre-processing – cladding processing – polishing post-processing” to simplify process switching time. Constant contact force control, good system stability.

- Wind power equipment
Demand: Regular inspection and repair of mechanical shafts (bearings)
Pain points: The traditional repair method removes the rotor shaft from the cabin, which is expensive to use a high-altitude crane, and the entire processing cycle of hoisting + repair + reinstallation is long; the online repair method is used, and it is inconvenient to hoist large maintenance equipment due to the high working position.
Matching degree: high. The portable repair equipment has a compact structure, is easy to hoist, is convenient and quick to arrange, and has strong adaptability to online repair.

- Hydropower Station
Demand: Repair of wear and deformation of hydropower unit seat ring; repair of cavitation in turbine runner chamber.
Pain point: The large-scale repair equipment on site for hydropower seat ring remains unchanged; the current repair method is mostly welding repair, which has a short life and leads to repeated surfacing.
Matching degree: high. The portable repair equipment has a compact structure, is easy to move, and the magnetic structure is easy to install and fix.

- Rolling mill arch repair
Requirement: Repair the failed working surface of the arch
Pain points: The rolling mill frame is large in size and weight, with many auxiliary pipelines, etc., which makes disassembly, installation, and transportation complicated. In addition, there is a time limit for overhaul; the on-site working space is small, and large equipment cannot be moved.
