WC-10Co-4Cr Tungsten Carbide Powder for HVOF & HVAF Thermal Spray Wear-Resistant Coatings
Product Overview
GREENSTONE WC-10Co-4Cr Tungsten Carbide Powder is a high-performance tungsten carbide–cobalt–chromium powder engineered for HVOF and HVAF thermal spray coatings requiring excellent wear, erosion and corrosion resistance.
The material combines hard tungsten carbide (WC) particles with a cobalt-chromium (Co-Cr) metallic binder. WC provides outstanding hardness and abrasion resistance, while the Co-Cr binder contributes coating toughness, adhesion and enhanced corrosion resistance.
WC-10Co-4Cr powder is widely used for surface protection and component life extension in aerospace, oil & gas, petrochemical, mining, construction machinery, power generation, paper manufacturing and other heavy industrial applications.
GREENSTONE can provide different particle-size distributions according to the thermal spray process, coating requirements and powder-feeding system.
WC-10Co-4Cr Composition
WC-10Co-4Cr is an internationally recognized cemented carbide coating material consisting primarily of approximately 86 wt.% tungsten carbide (WC), 10 wt.% cobalt (Co) and 4 wt.% chromium (Cr).
The WC hard phase provides extremely high hardness and resistance to abrasive and erosive wear. The cobalt-based binder improves toughness and coating cohesion, while chromium enhances resistance to corrosion and chemically aggressive operating environments.
Excellent Wear and Erosion Resistance
The high WC content provides excellent resistance against abrasion, particle erosion, sliding wear and other severe mechanical wear mechanisms. HVOF/HVAF coatings produced with WC-10Co-4Cr are therefore suitable for components continuously exposed to sand, minerals, slurry, particles and other abrasive media.
Enhanced Corrosion Resistance
Compared with conventional WC-Co materials, the addition of chromium improves corrosion resistance, making WC-10Co-4Cr particularly suitable for components exposed to moisture, salt, chemical media and corrosive industrial environments.
This combination of wear resistance and corrosion resistance makes WC-10Co-4Cr an important coating material for oil & gas, offshore, petrochemical and process-industry components.
High Coating Hardness
Properly processed WC-10Co-4Cr thermal spray coatings can achieve very high hardness, typically around 1100–1300 HV, depending on powder characteristics, spraying parameters and final coating condition.
The resulting hard surface helps extend component service life and reduce maintenance frequency in severe wear applications.
Strong Coating Bonding Performance
When processed using optimized HVOF parameters, WC-10Co-4Cr coatings can achieve high bonding strength to properly prepared substrates. Dense coatings with low porosity can be produced while limiting excessive thermal effects on the base material.
Optimized for HVOF and HVAF Thermal Spray
WC-10Co-4Cr is particularly suitable for:
HVOF (High Velocity Oxygen Fuel)
High particle velocity enables dense, strongly bonded carbide coatings with excellent wear performance.
HVAF (High Velocity Air Fuel)
Lower combustion temperatures can help limit carbide decomposition and oxidation while maintaining high particle velocities.
Plasma Spray
WC-10Co-4Cr may also be processed using appropriately optimized plasma spray parameters where required.
Typical Industrial Applications
Aerospace: turbine and compressor components, sealing surfaces and erosion-resistant component protection.
Oil & Gas: pump components, plungers, valve components, sleeves, sealing surfaces and other parts exposed to combined wear and corrosion.
Mining & Construction Machinery: crusher components, rollers, excavator parts and surfaces subjected to severe abrasive wear.
Paper & Pulp: paper rolls, drying rolls, calender rolls and other surfaces requiring wear resistance and long-term dimensional stability.
Power Generation & Heavy Industry: shafts, sleeves, rollers and mechanical components requiring high-hardness surface protection.
