High-Power Ultra-High-Speed Laser Cladding Systems for Hydraulic Cylinders and Shaft Components

Project Overview

As part of GREENSTONE’s ongoing industrial laser cladding projects, multiple enclosed high-power ultra-high-speed laser cladding systems were successfully delivered to two customer factories for the surface processing of hydraulic cylinders, piston rods, shafts and other cylindrical components.

These systems are used for industrial applications involving petrochemical equipment, coal mining machinery, engineering machinery and other heavy-duty machinery, where components require high-quality functional coatings to improve surface performance under demanding service conditions.

The systems shown in this case represent only part of the laser cladding equipment delivered by GREENSTONE. Multiple systems are operating efficiently and reliably in customer production environments, demonstrating the maturity and repeatability of the equipment platform.

Customer Production Requirements

Both customer factories required production-oriented equipment rather than laboratory or small-batch laser processing systems.

Their applications involve hydraulic cylinders, piston rods, long shafts and other rotationally symmetrical components with different dimensions and coating requirements. The equipment therefore needed to provide:

  • High-efficiency processing of cylindrical surfaces
  • Stable continuous operation for industrial production
  • Consistent coating formation over long processing areas
  • Flexible processing of different cylinder and shaft components
  • Reliable coordinated rotation and axial movement
  • Fully enclosed laser protection suitable for factory operation
  • Easy maintenance with controlled long-term operating costs

For these requirements, GREENSTONE supplied dedicated high-power enclosed laser cladding systems optimized for cylindrical component processing.

GREENSTONE High-Power Laser Cladding Solution

Each system integrates the key functions required for industrial laser cladding, including a high-power fiber laser, laser cladding head, precision powder feeding system, workpiece rotation system, linear motion platform, cooling system, process gas control, CNC control and fully enclosed protective structure.

The high-power laser platform provides sufficient process capability for efficient treatment of large cylindrical surfaces. Combined with high-speed and ultra-high-speed laser cladding technology, the system can be adapted to different workpiece geometries, coating materials and production requirements.

During processing, the cylindrical workpiece rotates continuously while the laser cladding head moves along the axial direction. Precise coordination of rotation, axial feed, laser energy, powder delivery and track overlap creates a continuous helical cladding layer over the required surface.

This configuration is particularly suitable for hydraulic cylinders, piston rods, long shafts, rollers and other cylindrical industrial components requiring efficient and repeatable surface coating.

Stable Operation and Easy Maintenance

For production equipment, coating performance is only part of the requirement. Long-term reliability, maintainability and operating cost are equally important.

The systems delivered to these two customer factories have demonstrated high-efficiency and stable operation in actual production.

GREENSTONE designs its industrial laser cladding platforms with maintainability in mind. The system architecture allows key functional modules and core components to be inspected and maintained conveniently, reducing unnecessary maintenance complexity. The use of mature industrial components and a practical modular configuration also helps customers keep routine maintenance and replacement costs under control.

This is especially important for customers operating multiple laser cladding systems, where equipment uptime, maintenance efficiency and long-term operating cost directly affect production economics.

Multiple Systems Successfully Delivered

Following system integration, process commissioning and workpiece verification, multiple laser cladding systems were successfully delivered and commissioned at the two customer factories.

In actual operation, the systems have achieved stable coordinated motion, reliable powder delivery, continuous cylindrical cladding and efficient production of high-quality functional coatings.

These installations are not isolated prototype projects. They are part of the many laser cladding systems delivered by GREENSTONE for industrial applications, reflecting our experience in turning laser cladding technology into practical and reliable production equipment.

From Laser Cladding Equipment to Industrial Production

GREENSTONE focuses not only on supplying laser cladding machines, but also on integrating laser technology, cladding processes, powder feeding, motion control, workpiece handling and industrial machine engineering around the customer’s actual production requirements.

The successful operation of these systems in two customer factories demonstrates the value of this approach: high processing efficiency, stable production performance, consistent coating capability, convenient maintenance and controlled long-term operating costs.

For hydraulic cylinders, piston rods, shafts and other cylindrical components, GREENSTONE can develop the equipment configuration and laser cladding process according to the actual workpiece, base material, coating requirement and operating conditions.
